Congrats guys! Jeff had a major back surgery this winter and Mark had hardly any build up time for this so you both should feel really good about your races!
I tell you Jeff is my Hero. I was fortunate to do the post finish line shuffle with him and learn of how far he came in such a short time. Truly amazing. I saw him at Johns My athlete tent before and you never would have known what he had been through. To learn of this after and completing I think his 11th BM and 61st marathon, my hats off.
Congratulations Jeff Well done!
My Athlete went very well. I have had some great feedback from my friends and family that followed the Diamond that moved through the course. John Popped up right at mile 25 with a hey Mark! So I mooned him with the device. My sister also called me on the way home and told me to slow down as we were speeding through Waterbury, too much information? BTW my wife was driving. Thanks John.
What a day Now I want to go back. The history and the crowds you pass are so energizing.
I think I will have some Boston Clam Chowder for lunch today.
I would like to give a big Thank You to Coach Eric. The 21 day April Fools day training plan worked very well. I would have done it much differently if he had not spoken up, and I would have suffered greatly.
It started with cool and overcast and the jets that flew overhead were in the clouds. As soon as the gun went off the sun came out. They said 70 % were first timers so right away people were throwing down seven minute miles. I chose to hold back from memories of last year and screaming thighs by the half. People were out in force triple from last year. The first half felt good and then I figured I had nothing to loose after that and tried to pick it up. Felt like I was going faster but the watch said differently. The Newton hills were a welcomed relief then into Heart break hill and some of the folks that passed me earlier were clearly hurting. For screaming spectators I give the best to Wellesley although BC gave a pretty darn good shout out. About four miles out the crowd gets a little more interesting, more alcohol more sun, and just more. At twenty Five John finds me with Myathlete pretty cool. Then the turn on Hereford street and that last .2 or so is just so cool. Big smile and then assume the post Marathon march.
