Thread killer here.....
Well here it is April first and I am playing my own April fools joke on myself. I have 21 days (including today) to prepare for The Boston Marathon. Now you ask why 21 days? Well like I said this all started with a great plan to go for a PR and really focus on running it. December got some miles in and all was good. January started having some knee pain. by February something is wrong. Order some orthotics, and get some ultrasound. Now this was not in the plan, three weeks off. Back to running and more pain. MRI it appears that I have a passenger. There is a 70mm x 10mm cist joining me on my runs in the back of my knee. No wonder I am running so slow all that extra weight, right?
Well the orthopedic says (with Dr. Evil grin) you can run, No ligament damage and all should be in order. Three things can happen, it gets worse, it goes away, or believe it or not the best optionÂ….it bursts sending a shrilling pain down the hammy. But then in a couple of days it should all be good. Well the only thing I heard was you can run. Now it shall be a crap shoot.
So with 21 oops 20 days, no wait 10 days of actual running how should one approach this thing. This is not a race, It is a marathon and the goal has changed to just finish. My thoughts are two more long runs of 15 miles plus. And mix in a few short runs with the remaining 8 days. Or just plan on 10 short runs and my long run will be April 21st .
I know, I should just let it go, but it is Boston and a really cool experience plus my qualifying time expires this year so I would have to run my but off to get back in. Now the plan is to start with Lance, streak with Will Farrell and beat Katie Holmes. Now thatÂ’s a plan.
Happy April
