Questions: In preparation for a pure marathon (not IM), should my long run be done 30-60 seconds per mile slower than my intended race pace? Would it make sense to do the last 30-60 minutes of a 3h run at my intended race pace to better simulate race day? (Eric - before responding, consider the fact that it will likely take me over 3:15 on a good day so a 3h training run IS reasonable). How much long running needs to be done on the roads (versus the rolling groomed trails at Rockefeller Preserve) to prepare the legs for the pounding on race day?
